SFS Airman receives AMC award

By Staff Sgt. Jennifer Arredondo 437th Airlift Wing Public Affairs

A 437th Security Forces Squadron Airman was recently selected as one of 20 individuals for 2007 Air Mobility Command Security Forces Individual Award winners.

Senior Airman Chrystal Pascalli, 437 SFS vehicle control NCO, was selected as the Outstanding Security Forces Support Staff Airman for AMC. She will now compete for the Air Force level awards, which will be announced February 2008.

Her primary duty in the squadron is to inspect vehicles for safety equipment and ensure safety standards are met. She also tracks the maintenance records for 21 vehicles in the squadron.

Airman Pascalli, originally from West Palm Beach, Fla., said she was "pretty shocked and excited" when she learned of her selection. "I was very proud of myself."

Along with being responsible for the upkeep of the squadron vehicles, Airman Pascalli has many other responsibilities that helped her earn AMC recognition.

During the past year, she pre-built 105 mobility bags that were issued to deploying security forces Airmen. Because she pre-built the bags herself, more than 197 man hours for deploying members were saved, allowing them to spend extra time with their families before leaving for their deployment, she said.

Not only was she an asset to Charleston Airmen, she was able to provide assistance to transient security forces Airmen coming through the base by loaning $3,000 worth of personal protection equipment. Airmen requiring these life-saving items were getting ready for detainee operations in a deployed location.

"We are always willing to help out people if they need gear [to help complete the mission]," Airman Pascalli said.

She also executed $570,000 of Headquarters Air Force funds to upgrade alarm systems in various buildings on the base. She received the new alarm systems, and they will be stored until they can be installed in buildings requiring the upgraded system.

Her supervisor has recognized her commitment to excellence.

"She has a relentless drive and selfless dedication to duty," Staff Sgt. Edward Meredith, 437 SFS NCO in charge of installation electronic security systems, said.

Senior leadership in the security forces squadron also agrees.

"Senior Airman Pascalli epitomizes the Air Force core values," Lt. Col. Seth McKee, 473 SFS commander, said. "She is selfless and always the first to volunteer in the squadron. Her commitment to excellence is shown every day in her award-winning performance as our vehicle NCO, and her personal integrity is second to none as a law-enforcement officer. You can always count on her to not only get any job done, but to get it done right every time."

Currently, Airman Pascalli is working towards her bachelor's degree in criminal justice, and would like to one day work the in the law-enforcement field.
