CHARLESTON AFB, S.C. –
Over the past two years, the Air Force has been transforming its Financial Management operations. Divided into two phases, the changes are meant to provide more efficient financial operations at each wing by consolidating the back shop "processing" work currently conducted at 93 separate base finance offices into one site: the Air Force Financial Services Center at Ellsworth AFB, S.D.
Phase I is designed to be relatively seamless to the customer, given that the biggest change in FM operating procedures will simply be "where" the processing takes place (Air Force Financial Services Center vs. base level comptroller squadron). However, until that occurs, there will not be any change in CPTS workload while a 60 percent reduction in manning has already taken place. Due to this impact, the 437 CPTS has changed its customer service hours to 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. This change will allow for more focused customer service, while providing time for back-shop operations to stay afloat.
In Phase II, which takes place October 2008, the AFFSC will become fully operational Air Force wide. In this phase, customers will be offered additional avenues to receive services; including unlimited online support and a 24/7 call center. Walk-in assistance at the base finance office will remain for limited services; primarily for DTS and civilian pay.
