Warrior of the Week: Airman 1st Class Gabriel Herr

437th Medical Operations Squadron

Airman 1st Class Gabriel Herr is a medical services journeyman and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for 14 months.

As a medical services journeyman, he sees anywhere from 50 to 70 Airmen weekly for annual preventative health assessments. However, a recently established online procedure will streamline the process and reduce the amount of time Airmen are away from their job. It will enable Airmen to do most of their assessments at their work stations or at home. Airman Herr will contact them to address their responses to the PHA and schedule them for their annual physicals. He also takes patients' vital signs and assists in minor surgery procedures.

"I enjoy the challenges of my job and helping people is what I like best," said Airman Herr. "I feel good when I can assist [Airmen] in pointing out the resources available to adjust their lifestyle. I enjoy the somewhat independence of my job and working with the other medical professionals on staff. It certainly makes for a busy day, but every day is rewarding."

This "warrior of the week" hails from Olympia, Wash., and joined the Air Force in April 2006.

"I am currently maintaining a 4.0 GPA in my prerequisite nursing requirements at Trident Technical College," said Airman Herr. "I plan to separate from the Air Force after my enlistment and complete my nursing degree at the University of Washington."

Aside from maintaining his grades, he has established a recycling program to help stress the importance of recycling awareness and is also a member of the dormitory council.

"Airman Herr is a hard working and dedicated Airman," said Tech. Sgt. Jennifer Cutlip, 437th Medical Group aerospace medical services craftsman. "He always puts the mission first and never hesitates to do what is asked of him. Airman Herr always comes to work with a smile and positive attitude."
