Warrior of the Week: Staff Sgt. Thomas Murphy

437th Maintenance Squadron

Staff Sgt. Thomas Murphy is an aerospace ground equipment craftsman who recently returned to Charleston AFB from a deployment to Accra, Ghana, in Africa for presidential support.

He has been stationed at Charleston AFB for a year and a half and is a member of the 437th Maintenance Squadron. While deployed or at home station, he is responsible for maintaining AGE equipment for aircraft. He has said that he is ready at a moment's notice to help contribute to the mission of the Air Force and Team's Charleston's mobility.

While he was recently deployed, Sergeant Murphy contributed to helping a mission run smoothly that involved the president.

"I like my job because I am able to have the knowledge to work on so many different pieces of AGE equipment," said Sergeant Murphy. "Every day brings me something different."

This "Warrior of the Week" hails from Vancouver, Wash., and enlisted in the Air Force seven-and-a-half years ago for the adventure and opportunity to travel. He said he plans to make a career out of the Air Force and retire when he reaches 20 years of service.

Sergeant Murphy is also married with a daughter and is expecting his second child in June.

"Sergeant Murphy is an outstanding NCO," said Tech. Sgt. Karen Jahnke, 437 MXS AGE equipment custodian. "He is a go-getter and will step up to get the job done. He's consistently looking to excel and propel the AGE flight to higher levels."
