CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Team Charleston and family members can enjoy a sneak peek of the 2008 "Wings Over Charleston" Air Expo and take part in a hangar party as part of the air show family day April 25.
"This is an opportunity exclusive to military members and their families to enjoy the air show practices and fun-filled family events," said Capt. Lloyd Richardson, 437th Airlift Wing, family day coordinator.
Starting at 11 a.m., families will be able to see many of the Air Expo acts practicing for the air show, including U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Also available will be a Kids Zone set up with jumping balloons and other activities for the children. Vendors will be selling food until 2 p .m.
"This is a great opportunity to enjoy the acts lined up for the Air Expo without the hassle of long lines or crowds," Captain Richardson said.
Military members wanting to enjoy the air show should work with their supervisors as this "family day" isn't a typical day off for everyone.
"While the day is meant for families to be able to enjoy the air show, it is not considered a military down day, and those who need to work, should expect to be working that day," said Lt. Col. Scott D'Antoni, 437 AW 2008 Charleston Air Expo director.
After the last act of the family day performances, a hangar party featuring food and live music will be held in Hangar 519 nosedock. The party will start at 5 p.m., and is open to all Expo workers, visiting aircrew members, performers and base population.
"The hangar party is a chance for everyone to get together to celebrate another year of Charleston Air Expo," said Brandi Griffith, 437th Force Support Squadron strategic partnership and special event coordinator. "Also, a delicious barbeque dinner with Lowcountry rice and hash will be served."
During the party, sponsors of the air show will be recognized. Also, Col. John "Red" Millander, 437 AW Commander will recognize the members of the Thunderbirds and U.S. Army Golden Knights.
The 2008 "Wings Over Charleston" Air Expo is scheduled for April 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 963-EXPO or go to www.chalrestonairexpo.com.
