‘Do Something Amazing’ Tour comes to expo to educate, entertain

By Public Affairs 437th Airlift Wing

The "Do Something Amazing" Tour, designed exclusively to introduce people into a day in the life of the Air Force, showcases its sophisticated movie theater on wheels, revolutionary technology and interactive elements at the 2008 "Wings Over Charleston" Air Expo here Saturday.

In its sophomore season, DSA2 is poised to educate and entertain nearly 80,000 people in an 11-month, cross-country adventure that will travel to nearly 70 cities and trek close to 150,000 miles.

Rebranded "Do Something Amazing" last year to coincide with its national marketing initiative, the tour effectively provides young men and women an inside peek of the Air Force as they fight on battlefields overseas, operate space satellites, defend cyberspace and safeguard the skies around the world.

During the air expo, gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. DSA2 will be located along the west side of displays on the flightline, and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the following:

Spatial Disorientation - A sensation pilots encounter which visitors can experience while secured in the upside-down Extreme Equilibrium Ride.

A Dog-Fight Mission Encounter - A three-part video game featuring "F-22 Fighter" (a dog-fight mission), "Sky Surveillance" (navigating the unmanned aerial vehicle) and "Air Force Lifeline" (humanitarian relief mission navigating a C-17) that can be played in six permanent kiosks that are housed on the side of the semi-truck - a movie theater on wheels.

Surround Sound Inside a Semi - A short, high-powered movie about the Air Force shown on a six feet by 14 feet movie screen that is actually built inside of a 53-foot trailer.

Pilot Life - An authentic F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet, affording visitors the opportunity to peer into the cockpit. Measuring 49 feet 5 inches long, the jet is 16 feet tall, with a wing span of 32 feet 8 inches.

After its visit to Charleston, DSA2 will continue on course, traveling cross- country to professional sports events, air shows, recognized city events and high schools to educate young men and women about the career opportunities and benefits associated with the Air Force.
