Warrior of the Week: Senior Airman Dan Carbon

17th Airlift Squadron

Senior Airman Dan Carbon is a member of the 17th Airlift Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for five years.

He is currently deployed to Southwest Asia as a C-17 loadmaster with the 816th Expeditionary Air Squadron. As a C-17 loadmaster, his duties include on and offloading of all cargo transiting to and from the area of responsibility, passenger handling and securing cargo for flight.

Airman Carbon contributes to Team Charleston's mobility mission by helping transport millions of pounds of cargo and passengers to and from the AOR.

"I like the fact that I can wake up in the morning in Charleston and end up 10 time zones away later that night," said Airman Carbon. "Also, opening the door and ramp at 10,000 feet and watching 50,000 pounds of cargo fall is pretty sweet."

This "warrior of the week" hails from Helena, Mont., and enlisted in the Air Force six years ago to get out of his hometown to see new places and experience new things. His future career goals include becoming a football coach and school teacher.

"Airman Carbon is one of the most highly qualified loadmasters in the 17 AS," said Master Sgt. Barry Moorefield, 816 EAS superintendent. "Currently, Airman Carbon has been selected for an assignment to Altus AFB, Okla., where he will be training the next generation of C-17 loadmasters. Along with these accomplishments, he is the most affable guy you will ever meet. He has the heart of a lion and the energy of a dynamo and is the embodiment of our squadron motto: anything, anywhere, anytime."
