Warrior of the Week: Tech. Sgt. Barry Rolland

437th Logistics Readiness Squadron

Tech. Sgt. Barry Rolland is a member of the 437th Logistics Readiness Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for more than seven years.

He is currently deployed to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, as vehicle maintenance night shift supervisor with the 455th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron. As a vehicle maintenance Airman, he assists customers from all over the base with their vehicle issues.

"Whether it is going out on a mobile call, or they bring the vehicle to us, we fix the problem and give the vehicle back in better condition than when they brought it to us," Sergeant Rolland said.

Sergeant Rolland contributes to the mission by working on the material handling equipment that loads the supplies needed to get the mission accomplished. While he is at the deployed location, Sergeant Rolland unloads that same equipment and ships it off to a forward operating base to ensure the mission is completed without delay.

For Sergeant Rolland, the best part of his job is getting it right the first time.

"The challenges of troubleshooting a problem on a truck and figuring it out when no one else can and then fixing it right the first time is the best part of my job," he said.

This "warrior of the week" hails from Hope Mills, N.C., and enlisted in the Air Force more than ten years ago to as a way to continue what he likes to do.

"I was in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in high school and liked the structure of it, plus my father and my uncle were in the Air Force, so it was an easy choice for me," he said.

While serving, Sergeant Rolland is staying focused on his future goals.

"My next goal will be to make master sergeant before my next reenlistment," Sergeant Rolland said.
