CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Senior Airman Brittani West is a member of the 437th Communications Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for three-and-a-half years.
She recently returned from a four-month deployment to Southwest Asia where she was assigned to the 380th Security Forces Squadron as a third-country national escort.
"It was interesting seeing how another country lives and how different our lives, culture and beliefs are from theirs," said Airman West.
Now that Airman West is back here she works as a computer security accountant assisting in secure voice technologies, operations security, the wing information assurance program, certification and accreditation of Air Force systems and the wing's cryptographic access program.
"I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment I get at the end of each day knowing that what I do makes a difference and that my job affects millions of lives around me," she said.
Airman West contributes to Team Charleston's mission by ensuring unauthorized personnel don't have access to sensitive information and that all COMSEC is accounted for and provided for all missions as needed. She also makes sure secure communication methods are available and maintained at all times.
This "warrior of the week" hails from Orange County, Calif., and enlisted in the Air Force four years ago to become independent, acquire an education and serve her country.
"Airman West is a highly dedicated and motivated individual," said Staff Sgt. Brian Idol, 437 CS NCO in charge of wing information assurance. "Her drive and desire for perfection is contagious and she demands the same from her peers and coworkers. She is an extremely valuable asset to our office and to the Air Force."
