Around the base
Hurricane preparedness briefing: Living on the South Carolina coast brings a high risk of being struck by a hurricane. Come to the Airman and Family Readiness Center July 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. to learn how to prepare for one from Live 5 Chief Meterologist Bill Walsh. Call the A&FRC at 963-4406 for reservations.
Driver safety course: A driver safety course will be held July 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the education center, Building 221. The cost of the course is $10 to cover books and materials. The course teaches individuals how to drive defensively and to avoid driving hazards. To register for the class, contact Charles Short at 963-2228.
Air Force Ball auditions: The Air Force Ball committee will be holding auditions for emcees and National Anthem singers beginning at 12:15 p.m. July 16 in the Charleston Club. Singing auditions are open to active duty and reserve Air Force members, family members, civilians and contractors associated with the base. Duets or groups are allowed to audition to sing the anthem. Auditions for emcees are for active duty and reserve Air Force members. Everyone auditioning must be available for the Sept. 6 event. AFSO 21 training: There will be Lean Awareness Training every Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Building 60 auditorium with the exception of July 17. Single parents group: Come for friendship, networking, parenting talk, support during pregnancies, cooperative babysitting and planning of other fun social activities July 9 at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel annex. Educational opportunities: Schedule a half-hour appointment to meet with an expert one-on-one to learn how to meet educational goals July 8 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Resume I and cover letter class: Learn how to put together a resume during a class July 9 from 9 a.m. to noon. The class will include the purpose of a cover letter, what it should contain as well as formats for a resume.
Troops/Spouses to Teachers: Learn how to pursue a kindergarten through grade 12 teaching degree by attending the briefing July 9 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Eligible members consist of spouses of active-duty members, Selected Reserve, National Guard and Individual Ready Reserve members recalled to active-duty.
SC employment services: A representative from the South Carolina Employment Services will be here July 9 to meet with job seekers. Half-hour appointments are held from 10 a.m. to noon. Individuals seeking an appointment must register online before the appointment at www.scjoblink.org.
PCSing to Kunsan?: Effective July 15 there will no longer be direct bus service from Incheon International Airport to Kunsan Air Base. Members must take the Incheon IAP bus to Osan and transfer to a Kunsan AB bus. Contact the A&FRC for schedule information at 963-4411.
Heartlink spouse orientation: Learn Air Force culture, traditions, military language, benefits, services and mission while making friends during a briefing July 26 from noon to 5 p.m. This class is only open to spouses of military members. Childcare issues will be discussed at time of registration. RSVP by July 16.
Family pre-deployment briefing: Pre-deployment briefings are held every Tuesday and Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. for individuals preparing for a deployment within the next 30 days. The briefing provides information on all realms of deployment, and there will be tips for a successful deployment for both the member deploying and his or her family.
Reintegration seminar: There are reintegration seminars every Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. for individuals returning from deployment to help them reintegrate back into their family lives.
Airman's Attic needs volunteers: Volunteers are needed to help at the Airman's Attic located in the A&FRC from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to sort donations and assist customers. There is also a need for individuals who own a truck or a trailer to volunteer as delivery drivers. Volunteers are eligible to participate in the base Recognizing Achievement and Volunteer Excellence program, which provides monthly incentives based on the number of hours volunteered. TSP transfers to Roth IRAs: Separated TSP participants and active participants eligible for age based in-service withdrawals now have the option to transfer all or part of their TSP withdrawal payments to a Roth IRA as well as to traditional IRAs or other eligible employer plans. Keep in mind that members must meet eligibility criteria and they must pay tax on any amount that is transferred into a Roth IRA for the year of the transfer. Airman's Attic in need of donations: The Airman's Attic is in need of household items, children's clothing to size eight, appliances and furniture. If anyone has items that have been gently used, consider donating them to the attic.
