CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Senior Airman Maria Proano is a member of the 437th Comptroller Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for three years.
She recently returned from a deployment to Southwest Asia where she served as a financial management analyst with the 379th Expeditionary Comptroller Squadron. As a financial management analyst, her duties included handling the base's budget and pay process by ensuring that payments were made in a timely manner. Airman Proano contributes to Team Charleston's mobility mission by making sure the wing does not overspend.
"I like being able to see how the base makes ends meet and accomplishes its mission within the budget that we are allotted on a year-to-year basis," said Airman Proano.
This "warrior of the week" hails from New York and enlisted in the Air Force more than three years ago to travel and go to school. Her future career goals are to become a school counselor.
She volunteered while she was deployed as a part of the wing staff morale team. The morale team participated in various activities such as working in the Blood Transshipment Center matching blood types, fun runs and its goal was also to build the overall morale of the troops.
"Airman Proano repeatedly demonstrates an impressive ability to work in any environment, she is a true professional in every sense of the word," said Senior Master Sgt. Michelle Lackey, 437th CPTS superintendent. "She has proven this through superior performance while deployed and here at home station."
