CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
This year's Armed Forces Voters Week has been designated Aug. 31 to Sept. 7 to remind Airmen and family members that time is running out to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.
The week was established to highlight that all citizens voting under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act who have not registered to vote or requested an absentee ballot this year, should do so at this time. Any person, active-duty member, family members 18 and older, civilians, etc., should use this to register for any of the remaining state primaries and the upcoming general election. The last day to register to vote is Oct. 4.
The Federal Post Card Application needs to be submitted in order to register as an absentee voter with Local Election Offices and to receive absentee ballots in time for the November election.
The UOCAVA states Airmen and their families serving around the world have the right to vote and the Air Force Voting Program's mission is to ensure they have the information and tools needed to exercise that privilege. As a part of the program, every Air Force installation has designated voting assistance officers who can assist Airmen and voting-age family members with the registration and voting process. Before deploying, Airmen should receive voting materials needed to notify their new mailing address. They continue to receive voting assistance from home voting officers and on-site personnel support for contingency operations teams.
Airmen serving away from their voting residence should use the FPCA standard form 76 to register and request absentee ballots. The SF 76 and 2008-2009 Voting Assistance Guide, which list unique voting rules for each state are available online at www.fvap.gov or may be obtained from the unit voting assistance officer. Contact a unit voting officer for more information.
