CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Name: Senior Airman Kenny Maeng
Hometown: Honolulu
Squadron and job title: 437th Aerial Port Squadron assistant supply manager
Time in the Air Force: three-and-a-half years
Time in the Honor Guard: three months
What inspired you to join the Honor Guard? I wanted to do my part in honoring our heroes. I also wanted to develop as a person and become well rounded within the Air Force.
What is your favorite aspect of the Honor Guard? My favorite part of Honor Guard is the people you meet. You get to make friends who you can rely on.
What is your most memorable moment in Honor Guard? My most memorable moment was at a retiree funeral and it was pouring down with rain. Regardless of the weather, nobody lost their bearing and we did an excellent job. And when the next-of-kin was presented with the flag, you could see the appreciation she felt through her tears. It was like an emotional scene from a movie.
What are your future career goals? To finish college and get a bachelor's degree in business marketing. I would also like to return to Hawaii someday and let my kids, if I have any, grow up in the same beautiful setting as my childhood.
