CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Staff Sgt. Edwin Amos is a member of the 15th Airlift Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for more than five years.
He is currently deployed to the 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron in Southwest Asia as a C-17 loadmaster.
"As a C-17 crew member, I help move the large amount of cargo through the area of responsibility," he said.
Along with being a loadmaster when he is at home station, Sergeant Amos is also an alternate vehicle NCO for the 15 AS.
According to Sergeant Amos, along with being able to fly to different countries and experiencing different cultures, he gets a good feeling from finishing a mission by having all the different pieces come together.
This "warrior of the week" hails from Bend, Ore., and enlisted in the Air Force more than 10 years ago because "I wanted to try something different than what I was doing at the time."
Sergeant Amos' future goals include being promoted to technical sergeant and finishing a bachelor's degree.
"Sergeant Amos is the consummate professional who strived to earn the respect of his peers, supervision and squadron leadership," said Tech. Sgt. James Bonk, 816 EAS loadmaster. "He has proven over time to be intrinsically motivated and dedicated to completing the task at hand."
His squadron leadership has also seen the dedication he has to the mission.
"He was instrumental in the pre-deployment phase of the 816 EAS," said Lt. Col. John Lamontagne, 816 EAS and 15 AS commander. "He coordinated shipment of flight gear and aircrew life support equipment worth $584,000, allowing Air Mobility Command to have operational C-17 aircrews within 24 hours of arrival. In the first three weeks of our deployment, he airlifted 500,000 pounds of cargo and 77 passengers."
