CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
The Air Force 2008 Daedalian Maj. Gen. Warren R. Carter Logistic Effectiveness Award evaluation team will be at Charleston AFB from Dec. 8-9 to evaluate the 437th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
The squadron intends to prove it is the premier logistics operation in Air Mobility Command.
The squadron provided world-class logistics support which proved instrumental to the 437th Airlift Wing earning the 2008 Verne Orr Award for installation excellence.
The members of the squadron provided parts, fuel and passenger transportation in generating more than 19,000 missions which carried 213 million pounds of cargo and 24,000 passengers 23 percent greater than any other wing. In addition, the "tip of the spear" fuels mission continues to deploy the only Forward Air Refueling Point team in the command. The 437 LRS Fuels Management Flight recently garnered a nomination as a William N. Penton Trophy finalist, signifying the best fuels operation in AMC.
The 437 LRS members are at the forefront in the Global War on Terrorism operations as the part that holds together the resupply missions in forward deployed locations. In 2008, 23 convoy operators covered 125,000 miles in support of 50,000 Airmen and Soldiers. Moreover, four LRS Airmen earned Bronze Stars for their outstanding performance in the area of responsibility.
The Order of Daedalians Awards program was charted and established by General Carter and 34 other World War I pilots shortly after World War I to perpetuate the spirit of patriotism, love of country, memories of the war and the high ideals of self-sacrifice that place service to the nation above personal safety and position. This prestigious award is presented annually, among others, in the Order of Daedalians Awards program.
