CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Refuse collection in military family housing will be reduced to once a week beginning Jan. 1, 2009.
Scheduled pickup days will be Monday for main base MFH and Friday for Hunley Park MFH.
Residents are required to place refuse container at curbside by 7:30 a.m. on the appropriate day to ensure pickup. No garbage or bags outside the container will be picked up. Residents requiring more than one container should summit justification request to the base housing office.
Yard and wood waste will be collected on Wednesdays from resident curbside for all of MFH. Waste must weigh less than 50 pounds and be no longer than four feet. Bulk-item curbside pickup will be once a month, on the second Wednesday, during the months of April through September and once a quarter during the remainder of the year. Residents will have the option of disposing bulk items between 8 and 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the community refuse area located behind the Outdoor Recreation Center. Bulk items consist of items that do not contain ozone-depleting substances.
During the first two weeks of January, the contractor will pick up holiday trees from housing curbsides. These trees will not be subject to length or weight restrictions mentioned above, so residents should remember to put trees by the curbside on one of the first two Wednesdays of January.
