The Inns of Charleston undergoes TLF renovations

437th Force Support Squadron

The Inns of Charleston lodging operation is in the process of a much-needed furnishings renovation to the 29 temporary lodging facility units on Charleston AFB.

"It'll be a much-appreciated quality of life improvement for our many inbound and outbound families," said Capt. David Boyer, 437th Force Support Squadron Sustainment Flight chief.

The inn was awarded more than $700,000 from the Air Force Lodging Fund to upgrade the furnishings, amenities, wall coverings, window treatments and carpet.

"This upgrade was long over-due," said Joe Abell, the general manager of the Inns of Charleston. "Because of the high occupancy of our units, they really suffer a lot of wear and tear."

Mr. Abell expects the upgrade to be completed by the first week of January 2009.

"Although the buildings we use for TLFs are older, our staff and the support members at the 437th Civil Engineer Squadron do a great job of keeping them in the best possible condition for our many guests," he said considering the inn registered more than 8,700 bed nights last year in the TLFs.

Because of the high demand for on-base lodging and the age of the current lodging building inventory, the inn expects an opportunity for new construction in the near future.
