CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Airman 1st Class William Gazaway is a member of the 437th Medical Group and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for about two years.
He recently returned from a deployment to Bagram AB, Afghanistan, as a medical logistics journeyman for the 455th Task Force Medical Group. Airman Gazaway's responsibilities included receiving and distributing all medical supplies, furniture and equipment for the medical group. Additional duties included being the point of contact for all forklift and steer loader operators, as well as the liaison for the use of all scrap wood in the shop for construction projects.
When stationed at Charleston AFB, Airman Gazaway works as a storage and distribution apprentice who is responsible for receiving, delivering and stocking all supplies necessary to provide medical support to the wing and retired community. Additional duties include refurbishing first-aid kits and managing some vaccine programs.
According to Airman Gazaway, what he likes best about his job is the people he works with, as well as the fact that all the supplies he helps deliver are used to potentially save the lives of others.
This "warrior of the week" hails from Georgia and enlisted in the Air Force almost two years ago to make a better life for his family and himself in the future.
Airman Gazaway's future goals are to make rank the first time, every time and to continue serving within the Air Force for at least 20 years.
When Airman Gazaway is not working, he volunteers some of his time to the Red Cross blood drive program, as well as a humanitarian program for less fortunate people in Afghanistan, he said.
"Airman Gazaway is a hard charger and has initiative and drive," said Staff Sgt. Justin Steidler, 437 MDG NCO in charge of storage and distribution. "He will take care of anything I need him to handle with speed and accuracy. As an example, I put him in charge of the first-aid kits and, on his own, he built a continuity binder to help train his customers on how the process works. He is a reliable, intelligent Airman whose work ethic has been unmatched in the warehouse."
