CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
The Charleston AFB Fitness and Sports Center is on track to be completed in late spring of this year.
The facility was originally constructed in 1959 and has undergone various additions and renovations throughout the years.
"As with any renovation, dealing with differing site conditions and 'as-built' blueprints has been challenging," said William Dean, 437th Civil Engineer Squadron Programs Flight chief. "However, the efforts will pay long-term dividends to our entire community."
"The biggest deficiency in the facility was the women's locker room," he said.
This part of the project was recently completed and is now open, as well as the equipment issue counter.
Work is continuing on the 5,200-square foot cardio room addition at the back of the facility.
"When this is completed, Team Charleston will have a first-class facility that will encourage fitness for a lifetime," said Mr. Dean.
