Warrior of the Week: Senior Airman James Hubby

437th Comptroller Squadron

Senior Airman James Hubby is a member of the 437th Comptroller Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for about two years.

He is currently deployed to Southwest Asia as a financial analyst in support of Army special operations with the 4th and 10th Special Forces Groups out of Fort Campbell, Tenn. and Fort Carson, Colo. Airman Hubby's responsibilities include being the liaison between Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Arabian Peninsula and the Multi-National Corps, Iraq. There he has worked hand-in-hand with civil affairs and special forces teams to fund immediate needs such as winter clothing, portable heaters, food, water and medicine. He has regularly engaged with MNC-I to receive additional funding for long-term infrastructure projects such as schools, health clinics, electrical distribution, sewage systems and wells for water sources, roads and highways.

When stationed at Charleston AFB, Airman Hubby works as a financial advisor who is responsible for budget management and oversight of all 437th Airlift Wing staff agencies, including funds which support the day-to-day operations of the wing commander, vice wing commander and command chief.

According to Airman Hubby, what he likes best about his job is how much of an impact his job has on the Iraqi people.

During his first month on the job, he helped in projects to refurbish existing water wells, which provides clean drinking water to approximately 5,000 Iraqi people, he said.

This "warrior of the week" hails from College Station, Texas, and enlisted in the Air Force five-and-a-half years ago to serve his country.

Airman Hubby's future goals are to re-enlist this March for another four years and finish college.

Airman Hubby enjoys playing rugby during his time off from work. After missing the Rugby Armed Forces Championship this past year from being deployed, he said he cannot wait to rejoin the Air Force squad next year for the fifth time in his Air Force career.

"Airman Hubby has the 'it' factor ... give 'it' to him and he'll get 'it' done," said Lt. Col. Seung Paik, commander of 437 CPTS. "People at all levels quickly forget he's an E-4. He makes a huge difference wherever he goes and it's been the same here. He took the toughest, most scrutinized funding program in theater and established 100 percent trust with Multi-National Corps. He's directly responsible for revamping the Commander's Emergency Response Program funding process and making it an effective weapons system for special forces in Iraq."
