6 Airmen receive legal punishments

Members of Charleston AFB received the following non-judicial punishments under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice during November and December 2008.
The maximum punishment under Article 15 depends on the rank of the member being offered the Article 15 and the rank of the officer imposing punishment. If the commander finds a military member committed the charged offense, the commander then determines the member's punishment based on the severity of the offense, the circumstances surrounding the offense, previous misconduct and any matters in mitigation or extenuation presented by the member.

A 1st Combat Camera Squadron staff sergeant received an Article 15 for being absent without leave three days or less and for government travel card misuse. The punishment consisted of reduction to senior airman, forfeiture of $1,202 pay per month for two months (suspended), restriction to base for 60 days (suspended) and a reprimand.

A 16th Airlift Squadron senior airman received an Article 15 for government travel card misuse. The punishment consisted of reduction to airman 1st class and a reprimand.

A 437th Aerial Port Squadron senior airman received an Article 15 for failure to go to an appointed place of duty and making a false official statement. The punishment consisted of reduction to airman 1st class, forfeiture of $300 pay per month for two months (suspended), 30 days extra duty and a reprimand.

A 437th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron senior airman received an Article 15 for two specifications of failure to go to an appointed place of duty, failure to follow proper job procedures and underage drinking. The punishment consisted of reduction to airman 1st class, forfeiture of $200 pay per month for two months, 30 days extra duty and a reprimand.

A 437th Logistics Readiness Squadron staff sergeant received an Article 15 for adultery, disorderly conduct and resisting apprehension. The punishment consisted of reduction to senior airman (suspended), 30 days extra duty and a reprimand.

A 437th Operations Support Squadron airman 1st class received an Article 15 for being AWOL three days or less and incapacitation for performance of duties through prior overindulgence in intoxicating liquor. The punishment consisted of reduction to airman, 30 days extra duty and a reprimand.
