CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Capt. Cindy Morgan is a member of the 437th Airlift Wing Protocol Office and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for five years.
She recently returned from a 365-day deployment to Camp Blackhorse, Afghanistan, and worked as the executive officer for Afghan Regional Security Integration Command-Central. The command's mission is to mentor the Afghanistan National Army and National Police. Captain Morgan handled all orders and suspenses for the command and served as the police liaison for the U.S. and Afghanistan as the command's personnel recovery officer.
While stationed at Charleston AFB, Captain Morgan works as the wing protocol officer. Her mission is to support all distinguished visitors who visit the base, ensuring that they see what Team Charleston is doing.
According to Captain Morgan, what she liked best about being deployed was being able to travel around Afghanistan, seeing the country and meeting the people.
Their living conditions are horrible, making you appreciate all we have here, but their spirits were high and they appreciated what we were trying to accomplish, said Captain Morgan.
This "warrior of the week" hails from Indianapolis and commissioned in the Air Force about five years ago to serve her country.
Captain Morgan's future goals are to conduct medical research in neurobiology, focusing on Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
When not taking distinguished visitors around the base or planning an upcoming event, Captain Morgan volunteers some of her time at the South Carolina Aquarium. She also volunteers her time to help coach youth soccer and basketball teams.
"We're thankful for her safe return," said Kathy Knitchel, 437 AW Protocol Office chief. "She will continue to be a great asset to the protocol team as we prepare for the upcoming change of command season."
