Warrior of the Week: Staff Sgt. Joshua Johnson-Pengra

437th Maintenance Squadron

Staff Sgt. Joshua Johnson-Pengra is a member of the 437th Maintenance Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for about six years.

He is currently deployed to Southwest Asia with the 8th Expeditionary Air Maintenance Squadron. Sergeant Johnson-Pengra's responsibilities include C-17 repairs and aircraft crash recovery. A few weeks ago, he was tasked to aide in the recovery of a C-17 that landed with all of its landing gear up.

When stationed at Charleston AFB, Sergeant Johnson-Pengra works as an aerospace maintenance craftsman who is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing flight controls, which include mostly door systems and landing gear.

According to Sergeant Johnson-Pengra, what he likes best about his job is seeing everyone work together with the common goal of completing a task. An additional perk to his job is that he is learning new things all the time, he said.

This "warrior of the week" hails from Palm Springs, Calif., and enlisted in the Air Force about six-and-a-half years ago.

Sergeant Johnson-Pengra's future goals include continuing his Air Force career and making the necessary preparations for the baby he and his wife are expecting in July.

"Sergeant Johnson-Pengra has been a go-to-guy during this deployment," said Senior Master Sgt. Kendrick Shropshire, 8 EAMS superintendent. "He has been tasked several times to forward deploy to fix disabled aircraft and has performed flawlessly every time. On the most recent forward deployment to Bagram AB, Afghanistan, his determination and leadership was simply inspiring."
