Warrior of the week: Senior Airman Wilbur Torres

437th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron

Senior Airman Wilbur Torres is a member of the 437th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for about two years.

He is currently deployed to Southwest Asia where the most interesting incidents he said he experienced was having an engine's hydraulic manifold assembly crack while it was being marshaled.

When stationed at Charleston AFB, Airman Torres works as a hydraulic systems journeyman who is responsible for the operation of hydraulic systems on the C-17. His responsibilities include changing parts due to wear and mechanical malfunctions. He also has to replace hydraulic parts with electrical defects.

According to Airman Torres, what he likes best about his job is the fact that he is actually working on an aircraft, which is something he never thought he would do.

This "warrior of the week" hails from Ponce, Puerto Rico, and enlisted in the Air Force more than two years ago to travel the world, get a degree, start a family and help the country in the war against terror.

Airman Torres' future goals include completing his degree on management and getting a master's degree on aviation management. With it, he hopes to jump to the officer side and progress in his career, he said.

During his time off from work, Airman Torres has participated in Habitat for Humanity, been part of the honor guard and joins his squadron for multiple activities.

"Airman Torres is an awesome Airman," said Master Sgt. Keith Coyle, 437 AMXS section leader. "He is involved in so many different activities and is a real go-to guy. If we need anything done, he is the first to volunteer and completes the task with minimum supervision."
