CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Name: Senior Airman Sean Strength
Squadron and job title: 437th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron electrical and environmental systems journeyman
Time in the Air Force: three years, one month
Time in Honor Guard: five months
What inspired you to join Honor Guard? After my uncle passed, I saw the Honor Guard perform at his funeral and it sparked something in me. At that moment, I knew I wanted to give back to those who served before me. I wanted to do what they were doing.
What is your favorite aspect of the Honor Guard? I would have to say discipline. No matter if you're training or on a detail you have to discipline yourself to do your best and remember you only get out of it what you put in. Every detail I tell myself, "This is not for me; it's for those before me."
What are your future career goals? One day I would like to be an Honor Guard trainer. I love what I do, I train to the best of my abilities and I would like to pass my skills on to a new Airman in training.
Who is your role model and why? My brother is my role model. If it wasn't for him I would not have joined the Air Force and met my wife. He told me all the great things the Air Force has done for him. Growing up I always looked up to him and listened to what he had to say.
