New duty status program in effect

By Master Sgt. Charlie Johnson Jr. 437th Force Support Squadron, Force Management Operations superintendent

The 437th Force Support Squadron has developed an application to assist unit commanders in the daily involvement and integrity of our Airmen accountability program.

To ensure an effective duty status reporting program is used at Charleston, effective April 13, all Team Charleston Airmen who are notified of a temporary duty, local or regular, are required to use the Enterprise Information Management application to provide the Military Personnel Section, Force Management Element of their TDY information no later than two days prior to their departure.

Upon receipt of this information, force management element will update the Airman's duty status in the personnel database system. Upon the first duty day back from a TDY, Airmen are required to access the EIM application to transmit their official TDY return date, which will ensure data integrity for the personnel database system and an accurate TDY record for the individual's career.

Team Charleston's Airmen can access the EIM Duty Status application visiting the EIM Web site and clicking on Duty Status.

The Air Force Duty Status Program is an important accountability program. The purpose of the program is to improve total force accountability and crisis responsiveness. All Airmen share the responsibility to ensure all changes concerning their duty status, regardless of length, are reported immediately. Timely and accurate duty status reporting is an essential tool allowing leadership at all Air Force levels to see the availability of their Airmen. It also correctly identifies tempo reporting thresholds for force management, quality of life and compensation purposes.

Air Force Instruction 36-2134, Air Force Duty Status Program, paragraph 4.1, places direct responsibility for ensuring correct duty status reporting daily on unit commanders. These responsibilities include establishing procedures to ensure changes of assigned Airmen are reported to the office responsible for updating the personnel database system.

For all contingency deployments, members must report to the 437 FSS Personnel Readiness Function, Building 610, Room 173 with the 437th Airlift Wing Post Deployment Checklist within 24 hours of return. Compensatory time or leave is not authorized until the 437 AW Post Deployment Checklist is completed and returned to the Unit Deployment Manager.

Units who had Airmen who were unable to attend the April 8 Duty Status Reporting System training can contact force management at 963-4154 to set up alternate training sessions. These training sessions can be accomplished during Commander's Calls and should only take about 10 minutes to provide the step-by-step instructions. The briefing slides can be viewed by visiting Charleston AFB EIM web site.
