CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Comment: I am a mother of a child who attends Lambs Elementary School. On several occasions, no one has been at the gate to allow the children or parents to enter or leave the school. Yesterday, security forces said they couldn't open the gate because of the exercise, and it took several phone calls to the control center before someone would open the gate. One comment that was made was that the children can walk to the front gate - not an appropriate comment to say. Plus, the school wouldn't allow the children to walk on such a busy road; they are liable for the children. Today, no one was on time because of "shift change." This is not acceptable. The matter at hand needs be rectified.
Response: I take the protection of our children very seriously. We need to be at the Lambs Gate to support our children and we need to react quicker when issues happen. An exercise should not compromise the safety and security of our school-aged children - we will do better next time. Thank you for raising this issue - it is important.
