This Memorial Day, I am very aware of the sacrifices being made daily by our American service men and women. As I fly throughout the European and Central Command Areas Of Responsibility this week, I have had the privilege to witness firsthand the heroic missions our personnel carry out every day. I was humbled to talk with injured service members on a recent aeromedical evacuation flight. Their sacrifice is a vivid reminder of the cost of freedom.
As military members, Memorial Day is also a poignant reminder of the serious nature of our business. Air Mobility Command engages daily in key missions that are helping to defend our nation and win the struggle against violent extremism. From tanker missions over hostile territory to cargo and personnel airlift deliveries across the last tactical mile, what we do is of vital importance to our nation in the fight for all freedom-loving people. We are engaged in this fight with the knowledge that what we do ensures democracy -- and extends hope -- throughout the world.
Despite noble efforts, America has experienced the loss of men and women in the quest for freedom. We honor them today, but their sacrifices will remain in our hearts forever. Memorial Day allows us to extend their dignity, honor, and respect with continued focus on our mission of defending our nation and standing up for the principals that our nation was founded upon with the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
I am honored to serve with you, and I am forever grateful to our U.S. servicemen and women who have given their lives for our country. As you celebrate Memorial Day, please take a moment to remember these brave men and women and their families. I thank you and your family for your daily service and sacrifice.
