Warrior of the Week: Staff Sgt. David Munton

437th Medical Group

Staff Sgt. David Munton is a member of the 437th Medical Group and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for about four-and-a-half years.

He was recently deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan with the Medical Task Force, where he worked with the patient movement element.

Sergeant Munton's responsibilities included the coordination and movement of wounded warriors out of Afghanistan. He received patients from medical evacuations and inbound fixed-wing aeromedical evacuation missions within the country and prepared patients for aeromedical evacuation missions out of the area of responsibility. Sergeant Munton was also responsible for managing patient care needs for those awaiting aeromedical evacuation and coordinating with Army personnel for transportation needs to and from the aircraft.

While at Charleston AFB, Sergeant Munton works as an aerospace medical service journeyman. He is currently assigned to the Family Practice Clinic where he provides support to the medical providers, by taking a patient's vital signs, as well as assisting with procedures, exams and treatments for Charleston AFB's 12,000-plus beneficiaries.

Sergeant Munton contributes to Team Charleston's mission by providing medical readiness for Charleston AFB's active-duty Airmen. In caring for their family member's active-duty Airmen know their loved ones have been given quality care, putting their minds on the mission at hand.

According to Sergeant Munton, what he likes best about his job is being able to help wounded warriors get out of a war zone and on their way back to recovery.

"I like knowing that I helped save the life of a critically injured service member and helped them start their journey to get back to their family," Sergeant Munton said.

Sergeant Munton's future goal is to further his education and stay in the Air Force for 20 years.

This "warrior of the week" hails from Roanoke, Va., and enlisted in the Air Force about eight-and-a-half years ago. He joined the Air Force to start a career and see the world.

"As an aerospace medical craftsman, Sergeant Munton supervises a team of health care professionals, including two medical providers, two nurses and two medical technicians, who provide medical needs to more than 1,000 patients each month," said Staff Sgt. Chun Fong, 437th Medical Operations Squadron aerospace medical services craftsman. "He just recently returned from a six-month deployment and we are looking forward to working with him again. Not only does he make things happen around the work place, but he also volunteers his time with the Airman Against Drunk Driving program."
