CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Comment: When I went to the gas station [recently], I was approached by solicitors who had a table set up. They had tire shine products and there was a man representing a window repair company. He approached me asking whether I had full coverage on my car and proceeded to inspect my windshield for any holes or damage, although I kindly said "no thank you." He of course said he found a rock hole and told me it could cause extensive damage if not taken care of. I told him I wasn't interested and he continued to give his speech and try to sell his product even though I made it very clear I was not interested in his product. He walked away shrugging his shoulders and mumbling something to his coworker. The base is one place a person feels shielded from this solicitation.
Response: Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I agree these kind of aggressive selling techniques are unacceptable. As a result of your call, our exchange manager contacted the company's promotion manager who also agreed their employee's behavior is unacceptable. In addition, we are reviewing this concessionaire's authorization to operate on Charleston AFB.
