CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Name: Airman 1st Class Colleen McDevitt
Unit and job title: 437th Civil Engineer Squadron structural technician
Time in the Air Force: two years
Time in the honor guard: two months
What inspired you to join the honor guard? I remember when the honor guard came to my First Term Airmen Center class. I was so inspired by what they do. I made my mind up that the very first chance I had, I was going to be in the honor guard. My squadron was tasked for a few spots, and I volunteered with no hesitation.
What is your favorite aspect of the honor guard? I take great pride in laying our veterans and retirees to rest. It is such an honor for me to give their families the best we have to offer in every detail we perform.
What are your future career goals? My ultimate goal is to make the rank of chief master sergeant. My fathers' best friend retired as a chief, and he has always told me I have what it takes to make it.
Who is your role model and why? My role models are anyone who has served or is serving our great country - anyone who is willing to make the sacrifice of doing what is needed to defend our freedoms we have all grown used to having.
What is your most memorable moment in honor guard? It was when I recently performed my first active-duty funeral. It was something I was hoping to go my whole rotation without having to do, but it was a great honor.
