Hurricane Tip of the Week

Hurricane season will continue through the end of November and as the hurricane season for 2010 comes to a close, service members are urged to stay vigilant.

Due to a hurricane's capacity for damage, preparation and education is the key throughout the dormant season. Weekly hurricane tips provide need-to-know information for staying ahead of the weather.

This week's hurricane tip is:

In a hurricane watch area, storm conditions are possible within 36 hours. Cover windows and doors with plywood, however base housing does not allow this. Moving valuable furniture away from windows and doorways is the best avenue of protection. Check flashlight batteries, first aid supplies and medications. Also, stock up on canned food and water. Make sure to bring in lightweight objects, such as trashcans and lawn furniture.
