JB Charleston demonstrates FARP mission
Master Sgt. Samuel Strong, 628th Logistics Readiness Squadron Fuels Flight Forward Area Refueling Point team, demonstrates FARP operations at Joint Base Charleston - Air Base, July 12, 2012. The FARP’s mission is to hot refuel, refueling while the aircrafts’ engines are operating, from a transport aircraft (C-17 Globemaster III) to a receiver aircraft, under the cover of darkness in an austere environment. The team’s capability to refuel aircraft in remote locations helps support special operations teams worldwide. The C-17 Globemaster III not only has the capability to fly long distances and land in remote airfields in rough, land-locked regions, but it can also carry large equipment, supplies and troops directly to small airfields in harsh terrain anywhere in the world, day or night.
