State of South Carolina offering free credit monitoring

By Joint Base Charleston Public Affairs

Up to 3.6 million people who filed a South Carolina state tax return from 1998 to 2012 may have been compromised by an international hacker, who likely penetrated the Department of Revenue's system a month before the breach was detected by the U.S. Secret Service.

The state of S.C. is offering free credit monitoring to anyone affected. To set up the free one-year credit monitoring system through the Department of Revenue, call 1-866-578-5422 or visit http://www.protectmyid.com/scdor (Use the code: SCDOR123).

NOTE: If the website asks for a credit card, don't submit.

For more information, contact the Department of Revenue Customer Service at 1-866-578-5422.
