JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Air Force officials recently released the winners of the 2012 Air Mobility Command Safety Awards and Joint Base Charleston came away with a team and individual award.
The 628th Air Base Wing Safety Office won the AMC Distinguished Ground Safety Award for large wings and Jeffrey Lucas, 437th Maintenance Operations Squadron Logistics Resource Management program manager, won AMC's Outstanding Safety Civilian of the Year award (additional duty).
"I'm extremely proud to be part of this team," said Darnell Edmonds, 628th ABW Safety Office certified safety and health official. "The Safety office has worked tirelessly to promote safety across the installation. In addition, we are leading AMC with innovative means to manage a large safety program encompassing a substantial array of missions carried out through multiple Department of Defense components. This is one the most driven, educated and experienced teams I've ever been part of during my 25-plus years with the U.S. Air Force."
"I know there were a lot of exceptional people in AMC competing for this award and it is an honor to be selected from among them," said Lucas. "I was given this award based primarily on my work with the AMC Logistics Resource Management program."
LRM is AMC's program designed to immerse maintenance, aerial port and logistics readiness squadron personnel into the culture of human factors and the importance of applying LRM principles in daily activities, according to Lucas. The goal is to improve processes, reduce errors, decrease preventable damage to aircraft and equipment and decrease on and off duty injuries.
"This is an outstanding accomplishment by the 628th Air Base Wing Safety Office and 437th Airlift Wing personnel," said Navy Capt. Thomas Bailey, Joint Base Charleston deputy commander. "The dedicated teamwork by both mission partners is evident in these results."
