JB Charleston begins recovery operations for Hurricane Dorian

| Joint Base Charleston Public Affairs Office | Sept. 5, 2019

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. —

Joint Base Charleston commander, Col. Terrence Adams, has issued a recall for all Recovery Teams 5:00 p.m. Sept 5, 2019.

Only recovery teams will return to the base and work to ensure our facilities, infrastructure and homes are safe for the return of our entire team. Hurricane recovery teams are expected to begin travel back to Joint Base Charleston as soon as possible but when it is safe to do so given the weather and road conditions from their safe haven location.

Any personnel not specifically detailed to a hurricane recovery team are not authorized to return at this time. Separate guidance will direct the return for all additional personnel. After arriving, hurricane recovery team members will notify their commanders. The LEO still applies to individuals not assigned to a hurricane recovery team, including recovery team member dependents. Recovery teams should communicate with their chain of command to establish their reporting location upon their arrival in the Charleston area.

This order does not apply to personnel detailed to the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC). NIWC personnel should follow guidance from the activity head.

Base leadership is assessing power outages and runway damages, and is working quickly to restore military and commercial airfield operations.

JB Charleston leadership extends their appreciation for the quick response of all recovery team personnel and emphasizes the importance of their efforts when preparing the base for a full personnel recall.
