Construction update: Inns of Charleston undergoes VQ, DVQ, TLF renovations

437th Force Support Squadron

The Inns of Charleston lodging operation is in the process of an air conditioning and heat system renovation for temporary lodging facility units on Charleston AFB.

During the next three months, all 29 TLF units will undergo a systematic upgrade to better heat and cool the units. To accomplish this, the Inn will close several units at a time, allowing as many to remain open as possible. This will help meet the heavy year-around demand for lodging.

The Inn was also awarded more than $1.6 million to upgrade the furnishings, amenities, wall coverings, window treatments and carpet in 90 visitor quarters and eight distinguished visitor quarters.

The upgrades for visitor quarters are scheduled to begin in March 2010 and be completed by the first week of July 2010. During the upgrade, the lodging office will rely heavily on contracted lodging to support the priority one mission of the wing. The Inn registered more than 55,700 bed nights last year and expects an even heavier requirement this year.

Because of the high demand for on base lodging and the age of the current lodging building inventory, the Inn expects an opportunity for new construction in the near future.
