British Royal Navy visits Port of Charleston
November 15, 2018 — The HMS Monmouth, a ship of the United Kingdom’s Royal Navy, visited the Port of Charleston Nov. 8-12, 2018. The ship, also known as the “Black Duke” by its crew, was greeted upon arrival by Capt. Kevin Byrne, Joint Base Charleston deputy commander; Cmdr. William Edenbeck, Naval Support Activity Charleston executive officer; and Master Chief Petty Officer Jonathan Lonsdale, NSA Charleston command master chief. The Monmouth has been up and down the Eastern Seaboard participating in exercises and supporting events with the U.S. military. Drug Demand Reduction Program raises awareness for Red Ribbon Week
November 5, 2018 — Joint Base Charleston’s efforts toward drug and alcohol prevention went up a notch in support of Red Ribbon Week, which takes place annually from Oct. 22-30. Red Ribbon Week is an annual event to help bring awareness and education to not only military members and their families, but communities nationwide. JB Charleston’s drug demand reduction program held events in conjunction with the annual weekly event by going to schools and youth centers on the Air Base and Naval Weapons Station to help develop and care for Airmen and their families by teaching the youth about the dangers of drugs and alcohol... AMC’s first Spark Tank competition recognizes Airmen innovation, selects winners to advance to Air Force level
October 29, 2018 — Air Mobility Command held its first-ever Phoenix Spark Tank competition at the Airlift/Tanker Association Symposium in Grapevine, Texas, where four finalists proposed their innovation ideas Oct. 26, 2018, to top Air Force leaders and the president of VOX Space. The competition, which is part of Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson’s innovation initiative, encourages Airmen of all ranks and careers to generate innovative ideas that save time, money and maintain readiness. ... SPAWAR employees receive high honors from National Society of Black Engineers
July 17, 2018 — The National Society of Black Engineers recently recognized two Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command employees for success in their careers and in their communities. SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific supervisory engineer Jimmie Williams II and SSC Atlantic systems engineer Sierra Williams won 2018 Golden Torch Awards.
