Joint Base Charleston C-17 deploys to deliver U.S. Navy's undersea rescue
November 21, 2017 — A C-17 Globemaster III from Joint Base Charleston joined six other U.S. Air Force C-17s and three C-5M Super Galaxies deployed to Argentina on Nov. 18 to deliver the U.S. Navy's undersea rescue capabilities to aid in the search for the A.R.A. San Juan, an Argentine navy submarine, which went missing in the southern Atlantic Ocean Nov. 15. The... MORE

Joint Base Charleston's efforts are helping aid the search and rescue of the A.R.A. San Juan, an Argentine navy submarine that went missing Nov. 15, 2017. As part of the support, two C-17 Globemaster IIIs and one C-5M Super Galaxy from Air Mobility Command are delivering needed equipment and expertise to assist a partner nation. The first flight from Joint Base Charleston is carrying a tow bar, a Tunner 60K Aircraft Cargo Loader and three members of the 437th Aerial Port Squadron. While on the ground, the team will be conducting runway assessments prior to other equipment arriving in country. Additional U.S. Air Force support will be provided to aid efforts.

November 14, 2017 — With 1 in 3 Americans at risk for diabetes, researchers and health professionals at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center in San Antonio, found it critical to implement and test the Group Lifestyle Balance program. The GLB program is a diabetes prevention program that was originally developed at the University of Pittsburgh and piloted at seven Air Force bases. Partnership enables JB Charleston sealift relief efforts to Puerto Rico
October 31, 2017 — The first humanitarian relief supplies sealifted from Joint Base Charleston to Ponce, Puerto Rico departed here Oct. 31. In the hours following Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, Joint Base Charleston C-17 Globemaster IIIs responded delivering more than 1,700 tons of aid, supplies and medical teams to affected areas. The C-17’s have the ability to get to austere locations quickly, the amount of cargo it can carry is limited. The USNS Brittin (T-AKR-305) is scheduled to travel between Joint Base Charleston and Puerto Rico several times over the next few months. The first trip is bringing essentials such as food, water and vehicles to get aid to areas where mudslides have created access issues.
