JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. —

Team Charleston is scheduled to host members of the foreign Diplomatic Corps’ 23rd Experience America trip to Charleston S.C. October 15, 2018, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the Office of the Chief of Protocol.

Over 30 foreign ambassadors – representing countries across four continents – will join Ambassador Sean P. Lawler, Chief of Protocol of the United States, to visit Joint Base Charleston to learn about its mission.

Ambassadors will receive a mission briefing and tour a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing. They will also tour the Transport Isolation System, or TIS, an asset the Department of Defense can use to safely transport patients with highly contagious diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, and visit with explosive ordnance disposal Airmen assigned to the 628th Civil Engineer Squadron.

The Charleston Region contains the largest military presence in South Carolina, with an annual economic impact of approximately $10.8 billion that is supported by 68,529 jobs. This impact includes Joint Base Charleston, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Army Corps of Engineers, as well as DoD contractors, military retirees and veterans, portions of the South Carolina National Guard, and the U.S. Army Reserve. JB Charleston is “The Launch Point for the Nation’s Resolve” because it comprises the strategic mobility triad.
