080118 | Jan. 19, 2018

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. —

Airmen from the 321st Contingency Response Squadron, 621st Contingency Response Group, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, and C-17 Globemaster III aircraft from the 437th Airlift Wing, Joint Base Charleston, will conduct Exercise CRESCENT MOON 19-25 January, 2018, at North Auxiliary Airfield, South Carolina.

CRESCENT MOON is an exercise that is designed to enhance the readiness of Air Force contingency response personnel by giving them the opportunity to focus on their mission of providing first response teams in support of Disaster Relief and Humanitarian Assistance Operations, Non-Combatant Evacuation Operations and Homeland Defense for purpose of establishing initial airfield operations. Units control airbase activities through expertise in airfield operations, security, force protection, aerial port, maintenance, air traffic control, and expeditionary combat support functional areas.

“This seven-day readiness exercise is specifically designed for contingency response training,” said Maj. Tom Leyden, 321st CRS assistant operations officer. “Local area residents in the vicinity of North Auxiliary Airfield may see increased military aircraft and activity near the field associated with the exercise.”

Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions within local communities. Area residents may also see or hear security activities including the use of blank ammunition associated with the exercise. Advanced coordination has taken place with local law enforcement and first responders.
