JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. - Army Sgt. Leroy Faulkner, a fuel supply specialist from Ft. Lee, Va., mixes fuel with water in order to test the fuel’s content using a refractometer during a during a technical demonstration of the Expeditionary Mobile Fuel Additization Capability at the Charleston Defense Fuel Supply Point Dec. 6, 2018. To use the EMFAC, the operator must first test the fuel to find out if there’s currently any additives in it and, if so, how much. Based on those findings, the operator calculates how much additive needs to be applied to the fuel, calibrates the EMFAC’s injection rate, connects the EMFAC to the fuel supply and runs the fuel through the machine.
