The 628th Logistics Readiness Squadron Port Operations received two new Harbor Security Boats this month to replace some of their older boats. The boats were received as part of a phased-replacement program governed by Chief of Naval Operations Instruction 4780.6. This program allows for the regular overhaul and modernization or replacement of small boats without impacting the command's mission. The Joint Base Charleston – Weapons Station’ shoreline spans approximately 15 miles of the Cooper River and Sailors, Airmen and Department of Defense contractors patrol the shoreline on these Harbor Security Boats.
