An Airman from the Memphis Air National Guard guides a High Mobility Engineer Excavator into the back of a C-5 on the Charleston AFB flightline Sept. 29, 2008. Charleston AFB, S.C., is the first Air Force base to assist in transporting the vehicles to forward-deployed Soldiers and contractors in hostile environments. The HMEE is a newly developed military construction vehicle capable of a wide range of mobility affording more protection for the operator than conventional excavators.
