Col. Ines White and Sgt. Maj. Kelly Hill visited the U.S. Coast Guard Station Charleston's Military Outload Division May 6, and presented the Army Commendation Medal to nine Coast Guardsmen and the Army Achievement Medal to 56 others. The awards were in recognition of the Coast Guard's security boat crews collaboration with the Army Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, enabling the unit to safely move 3.5 million square feet of military cargo bound for combat operations in the Middle East. Both units, located on Joint Base Charleston - Weapons Station, accomplished this without any operational mishaps or injuries while completing 80 cargo ship evolutions and logging more than 7,200 hours underway for maritime point protection. Colonel White is the 841st Transportation Battalion commander. (U.S. Coast Guard Photo/Chief Boatswain's Mate Stacy Sinke)
