Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew Hampton places a water vial in the centrifuge prior to running the machine. The vial filled with water acts as a balancer ensuring no displacement while the machine runs. The machine is used to separate the red blood cells from the serum in the blood. The liquid excreted is what is tested by lab technicians. Hampton is a Hospital Corpsman at Naval Health Clinic Charleston. (U.S. Navy photo/Petty Officer 1st Class Jennifer Hudson)
