Team Charleston is ready for combat performance

By Lt. Col. John Lamontagne 15th Airlift Squadron commander

Combat -- that's why we do what we do.

Excelling in combat takes teamwork and a commitment to excellence, and the United States Air Force and Team Charleston are built for both.

Phenomenal combat performance takes teamwork. After all, the men and women of the operations group can't equip and fly broken airplanes -- they need the help of others. Similarly, the maintenance group can't maintain the aircraft without parts and security. Every unit needs the medical group to help keep us fit to fight, in addition to the outstanding foundation that the mission support group provides. Essentially, without all of our teammates, aircrew members become pedestrians, maintainers become aircraft collectors, medics become ordinary and the support members become unnecessary.

Superior combat performance, however, also requires a commitment to excellence. An average team that gets along great will get beat soundly by a team with a commitment to excellence. In this period of transition for the Air Force, a commitment to excellence is something we can continue to focus on. Each Airman should strive to be their best while on the job, in the community and in the classroom.

Our commitment to excellence combined with outstanding teamwork proved pivotal in our recent overall "Exellent" rating in the operational readiness inspection. Team Charleston has proven to the command what we've known for a long time -- we are ready to go to war. An overall "Excellent" rating is something we should all be very proud of.

Team Charleston always has people in harm's way and this month is no different as our Squadron gets ready to deploy and take the fight to the enemy. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for helping prepare us. It was truly a team effort with outstanding work from the operations, maintenance, medical and mission support groups.

Thanks to everyone for all of your outstanding support.
