CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Team Charleston knows and lives by the Air Force Core Values ... integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do.
Trust in our core values is also fundamental in everything we do. Without them, nothing can be done.
During the past several months, Team Charleston members have demonstrated a tremendous amount of service before self through countless hours of preparation for recent base inspections. The inspections included the Aircrew Standardization and Evaluation Visit, Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Program, Unit Compliance Inspection and the Emergency Management Inspection. While preparing for these inspections, we have been striving for the elusive goal of perfection. To get even closer to it, during the next several months, Team Charleston will need to continue to focus on our commitment to excellence.
Frequently, a monumental effort to prepare for a big inspection, or several of them at the same time, is followed by a corresponding slide, or lull, in activity when the inspection is over. Team Charleston must guard against this tendency. Now is not the time to rest.
The 437th Operations Group was rated "mission ready" by the ASEV team, the best rating possible. While some areas were graded as "excellent," many areas were graded "satisfactory," meaning there is room for improvement. The overall LSEP rating for the 437th and 315th Airlift Wings was "outstanding," a landslide victory for both wings. The wing also received an "excellent" rating for the UCI, however, there are areas where we are less than perfect, which also means there is room for improvement.
Now is the perfect time to focus on these areas while they are fresh in our minds. After all, the inspectors have already helped identify the areas for us.
During the next several months, we need to focus on those areas and resist the temptation of older ways of doing business. While we will never reach perfection, if we maintain our commitment to excellence, Charleston will be an even better place to work, play and live. Plus, it will also make preparations for the next inspection much easier for our entire team.
