JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Commander's Action Line is your direct link to me as the commander of Joint Base Charleston. I would ask that you first, give the appropriate base agency a chance to solve the problem, but if you don't get a satisfactory answer, call me at 963-5581, or send an e-mail to 437aw.action@charleston.af.mil.

This forum is your opportunity to make Joint Base Charleston a better place to live, work and play. This is also your venue to tell me how our Airmen, Sailors, Air Force and Navy Civilians and Contractors are supporting you as a customer.

To ensure you receive a response to your concerns, please leave your name and the information needed to contact you.

Comment: I asked Mr. Howard, AAFES [Base Exchange] general manager, if it was possible to have a sign out on near the Dorchester gate displaying the current fuel price. With a sign at the corner, I'm sure you would get some business that is heading out the gate.

He replied with, "Thanks you for your suggestion. The base will only allow the fuel price sign to be positioned in the current general area."

Is there a reason that sign can't be moved? Thanks for your time.

Response: Our base civil engineers along with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service leadership have explored several sign options and determined the present location is the best location to advertise the current fuel price. The existing sign reaches the highest volume of daily traffic on base heading to the childcare, Base Exchange and Commissary areas. Relocating the sign adjacent to Hill Boulevard would potentially impede inbound and outbound traffic, create a visual barrier on Hill and would not comply with our existing sign standards. For that reason, the sign is best left at its current location.
