Diamond Tip: Proper cold weather uniform wear

By Master Sgt. Steven Hart 628th Security Forces Squadron first sergeant

As the days of cold weather are upon us, here are a few things to remember when wearing cold weather items in uniform:

In Airman Battle Uniform:

· Outerwear is only worn while outdoors and must be zipped and buttoned up to the chest.

· In order to wear the knit watch cap, you must wear appropriate outerwear, such as the APEC or Fleece.

· You must wear your ABU shirt under your outerwear.

In Physical Training Uniform:

· Knit watch cap, if worn, will be plain, solid black, dark blue or sage green without logos.

· Gloves will be black or dark blue leather, knitted, tricot or suede without logos.

· The green or black fleece is not authorized to be worn with the PTU.

· Socks are mandatory. Socks will be white and may have small trademark logos.

This is just a small sampling of some common mistakes we "Shirts" see around the base on cold mornings.

For specific uniform questions, consult Air Force Instruction 36-2903.

Happy Holidays from all your Joint Base Charleston first sergeants!
